Conformity assessment is the process of verifying and evaluating whether a measuring instrument meets the prescribed requirements; it is an essential step in putting a scale into service for use in commercial transactions. This process confirms that the scale meets the applicable requirements of the European Directives and, consequently, the German Measurement and Calibration Act and the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance. Once the conformity assessment has been successfully completed, the scale may be used in legal commerce for two or three years, depending on the type of scale. Upon expiration of this period, the owner of the scale is legally required to have it calibrated by a calibration office. Calibration is the official inspection and marking of a measuring instrument, granting permission for its continued use. This is intended to ensure that the weighing results continue to meet the applicable requirements. This obligation is renewed upon the expiration of each calibration period.
PFREUNDT handles the organization, scheduling, and conduct of conformity assessments for its customers’ scales. The company is a recognized body for conducting conformity assessments and is therefore authorized to perform them without the presence of calibration authorities.
As soon as a weighing system is ordered, PFREUNDT’s dispatchers schedule an appointment for the conformity assessment. After the scale is installed, a PFREUNDT service technician performs the conformity assessment on-site at the customer’s location. Once the calibration period has expired, PFREUNDT sends reminders to its customers. Customers can then order the calibration online.
